Unfortunately these once-popular tilesets are no longer available at the official web site. It features large, realistic images of map features. tile2360.py -h for a complete list of options. The Absurd NetHack Tileset is a tileset for NetHack created by John Shaw. Windows users can run this with ActiveState Python. If you have a Mac or Linux, you probably already have Python (or can install it with your package manager). I personally can't stomach playing for a long period with them, but they're hilarious.
If you're looking for the meme, then play with Absurd tiles. Incredibly high quality images, easy to tell everything apart, and very flavorful. Like the site says, it's all about choice. Here is a Python program that will take a NetHack 3.4.3 tileset in BMP format and convert it to a form usable with 3.6.0. The default tileset works pretty well, but as other commenters have said, I don't think you can go wrong with DawnHack. There is a playable beta version that you can download now if you want, as well.
